1000Base GBIC include a wide range of transceivers that used for copper and fiber optic network, 1000Base GBIC are hot swappable fiber optic transceiver modules used to link the relevant GBIC slots or ports on the routers, switches or other equipment to the networks, the data transfer rate is 1Gbps.

1000Base GBIC include 1000Base-T copper GBIC, this transceiver use category 5 cable to provide 1000Base-T full duplex connectivity between the transceiver and the network, typical type 1000Base-T module is Cisco WS-G5483.There are 1000Base-SX fiber transceiver, typical type like Cisco WS-G5484, this transceiver use multimode fiber for linking and work at 850nm wavelength. 1000Base GBIC also have the 1000Base-LX/LH types, such as Cisco WS-G5486, this module could operate via either single mode or multimode fiber. 1000Base-ZX is the 1000Base GBIC that has longer working distance than above types, it operate with single mode fiber and max span is 70km, typical type of this 1000Base GBIC is Cisco WS-G5487.
