Duplex Fiber Optic Cable
Duplex fiber optic cable is commonly used type, especially for multimode patch cables terminated with various kinds of connectors. Duplex fiber optic cables are usually with two strand of fiber, two fiber core, it can be regarded as two simplex type adjoined to each other. Below we give a picture to illustrate the structure of the common duplex cable. If you understand simplex, you will understand duplex easily.

There is one special type duplex patch cable. Imagine if you have some rugged type cable whose outer jacket is made of stainless steel, in this case it is hardly to make it a duplex structure as shown on above image. Then we will make the duplex structure like on below picture. You can see the center part we use is a two core and single jacket cable, then at the breakout part, there are breakout kits at both end of the cable to seperate the two core and then the connectors are terminated.
