Fiber Ethernet converter is an Ethernet unit used to convert signal between the short distance data transmission capacity UTP cable to long distance data transmission capacity fiber optic cable. Fiber Ethernet converter is used where the copper based Ethernet UTP line cannot cover and users must use fiber optic to extend the network coverage range.

Fiber Ethernet converter key component is the fiber optic transceiver which are used to transform between the fiber signal and copper signal. Fiber Ethernet converter also consist of the optical fiber interface port which is usually FC, ST, SC, LC type and the UTP cable interface port which is usually RJ45 port. If it is manageable converter, there is managed semiconductor on the converter. Generally, there are two types of fiber Ethernet converter, the single mode type and multimode type, multimode fiber Ethernet converter transmission distance is short, usually several hundred meters to 2km, single mode fiber Ethernet converter transmission distance is longer, usually from 20km to 120km.
