Fiber Optic Communication System
Typical fiber optic communication system nowadays consists of the electronic segment and the optical fiber segment. Fiber optic communication system working model is like this, first of all, information is conveyed into an electronic transmitter, which will transform it into electrical form. Then the electric signal is sent to the optical fiber segment, the fiber optic transmitter will transform the electrical signal into fiber optic light signal. Fiber optic cables guide the signals to reach the receiver side. At the receiving side the work is just opposite, fiber optic signal transformed back to electrical signal and electric signal transformed back to original information format.

In the fiber optic segment, the heart of the transmitter is the light source, now it is mainly laser diodes or light emitting diodes. The media, the fiber optic cables, its key part is the fiberglass core, made of silica, the heart of receiver is photodetector, it is mainly semiconductor photodiode.
