Fiber Optic Link
Fiber optic link refer to the link between optical fiber cables or devices. It could refer to fiber optic link that connect the two devices via a fiber patch cable, it could refer to fiber optic link of two fiber patch cable connected with each other via a fiber adapter, it also could refer to fiber optic link that connect a fiber patch cable to a device.

There are two kinds of fiber optic cables used for fiber optic link, the single mode optical fiber cable and multimode optical fiber cable. Single mode cables are used for long distance fiber optic link, single mode fiber links could be tens of kilometers or hundreds or kilometers. Multimode fiber links are used in short distance data transmissions such as LAN.

Fiber optic links could be temporarily or permanent, for example, the fiber optic link formed by patch cables, connectors, adapters is temporary; you can disconnect them and connect them again.  Permanent fiber optic link is like the fusion of the two fibers, once the link forms, it cannot be disconnected unless you destroy the connected part.
