Fiber Optic Standard
With the development of fiber optic technology, many standards related to this industry were developed. International type and National (U.S.A) types generally classify the fiber optic standards.

International fiber optic standard include the ITU and ISO. ITU is International Telecommunication Union; ITU-T is the telecommunication sector, which is applied to fiber optic industry. ISO is the International Organization of Standardization, which is a non-government organization working for industries and trade.

National fiber optic standard are many types. U.S government runs the national institute of standards and technology (NIST). It develops standards for science, technology and industries, including fiber optics filed. IEEE, the well-known institute of electrical and electronics engineers, develop standards mainly for LANs, such as Ethernet standards. EIA, the electronic industries alliance, represents the manufacturers of the communication products. TIA, the telecommunication industry association, cooperate with EIA to establish standards for fiber optic communications. Telcordia (former Bellcore) is an American company that develops standards for telecommunications, especially for fiber optics. World manufacturers of fiber optic products usually state their products to compliant to Telcordia to prove that their products are qualified.
