Fiber Optic Technology
Fiber optic technology brought revolution to the telecommunication industry and it has changed the world communication systems. A single fiber optic channel is able to carry 50Tbit per second but, form a practical standpoint, commercial links have transmitted far fewer than 100Gbps, an astounding amount of data in itself that can not be achieved with any other transmission medium. New fiber optic technologies are being developed to try to approach the potential capacity limit.

Two important fiber optic technologies, the wavelength division multiplexing and erbium doped optical fiber amplifier, have been developed to help increase the capacity of fiber optic systems and has brought dramatic improvement. Especially for the WDM fiber optic technology, it is becoming popular used method to achieve smooth, manageable fiber optic network capacity expansion. We can expect in the future, development of fiber optic technology will bring more convenient communication to our daily lives.
