Loose Tube Fiber
Loose tube fiber optic cables refer to the optical cable with loose tube structure. Here the tube is also called buffer tube sometimes. As we know the fiber optic cable usually consist of many layers. Except for the optical fiber, all other layers are used to protect the optical fiber and make the fiber optic transmission smooth and safe. The tube is inside the cable jacket and outside the optical fiber; the fibers are put inside the tube. We called it loose tube because the outer diameter of the optical fiber is much less than the inner diameter of the tube.

Loose tube fiber optic cables are generally outdoor cables, such as various ducts, aerial and buried cables. Loose tube structure has its advantages, because the tube is loose, between the optical fiber we can put waterproof gel. And because the tube and optical fiber are not joined together, unless you press the cable too much, the optical fiber inside the tube will not be affected. All these features make the loose tube fiber optic structure suitable for being used on outdoor cables.
