Uncooled Laser Diode
Uncooled laser diode means this device does not require any cooling during its operation. As we all know, during the work the laser diode will radiate a lot of heat that comes form nonradiative transitions of excited electrons. And because of this, usually there will be thermoelectric coolers included inside a laser diode package to deal with the heat problem. The uncooled laser diode consumes less power than cooled ones and does not need extra cooling components; this feature is important and useful in a certain applications. For example, uncooled LD can be used for loop installations connecting the central office to the end users.
