The QSFP28 Optical Transceiver Module, compatible with the Cisco QSFP-100G-ER4L-S, is meticulously engineered for 100GBASE Ethernet, delivering a throughput of up to 40km over single-mode fiber (SMF) with a 1310nm wavelength via duplex LC connectors. Its distinct BOX+FPC+PCBA design ensures superior reliability, airtightness, and heat dissipation performance. This transceiver strictly adheres to the IEEE 802.3ba 100GBASE-ER4 Lite standard, offering advanced digital diagnostics functions accessible through the I2C interface as per QSFP28 MSA specifications, facilitating real-time access to operational parameters. With its user-friendly installation and hot-swappable design, this transceiver is versatile, finding application in diverse scenarios, including 100G telecom connections, data centers, high-performance computing networks, and enterprise core and distribution layers.
The IEEE 802.3ba working group has established the 100Gbase ER4 standard, introducing support for DWDM technology to transmit signals within the 1310nm wavelength range over single-mode fiber. By incorporating Semiconductor Optical Amplifier (SOA) amplification prior to the optical signal reaching the Avalanche Photodetector (APD), it enables ultra-long-distance transmissions of up to 40km.
The 100G QSFP28 ER4 optical module aligns with QSFP MSA, IEEE 802.3ba, 100GBASE-ER4 Lite, and OTU4 standards. It achieves a transmission distance of up to 40km over single-mode fiber, with a maximum power consumption of 3.8W. This module is applicable in 100G Ethernet and OTU4 optical transport networks. The transmitter end operates in four LAN WDM bands (1295nm, 1300nm, 1305nm, and 1310nm), with optical signals in these bands multiplexed by a WDM wavelength division multiplexer (WDM Mux) and transmitted over single-mode fiber using standard LC connectors. At the receiver end, the WDM Mux demultiplexes the signals before the SOA amplifies them.
The QSFP28 ER4 supports direct 100G connections, reaching a maximum transmission distance of 40km. Simply insert two 100G QSFP28 ER4 modules into the ports of a 100G switch and connect them with an LC duplex single-mode jumper. It is also suitable for interconnecting data centers in different geographical locations, facilitating high-speed remote interconnections between 100G data centers. As a convenient and cost-effective solution, it addresses the needs of 100G long-distance transmission, be it for direct connections or interconnections, in various enterprise or data center scenarios.
